- Watch the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau turn pink at golden hour - Glide down a long, easy sled run through snowy forest, past wooden chalets and frozen waterfalls - Warm up halfway with a cup of hot mulled wine (adults) - End the evening over a delicious Swiss cheese fondue and a glass of white wine in Interlaken - No experience needed: never skied, never sledded, you are welcome - Small group of 8 guests at most, with a local guide who looks after everyone
Leave the valley behind. Your guide picks you up in Interlaken and drives you into the Lauterbrunnen valley, where a cable car carries you up into the snow, face to face with the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. Then the light turns gold. The summits blush pink, the cameras come out, and for a moment nobody says a word. Never been on a sled? Perfect. Your guide shows you how to steer and brake, and the first stretch is flat so you can find your feet. The run is long, easy and a joy: snowy forest, wooden chalets, frozen waterfalls, bursts of laughter on the faster parts, and between them a silence so deep you only hear the sleds on the snow. Halfway down, your guide pours hot mulled wine. The light changes with the season as the days get longer. Some evenings you finish in the last glow of the day, others turn into night sledding by headlamp, with the snow in the trees sparkling in your beam. Back in Interlaken the table is waiting: a delicious Swiss cheese fondue, bread to dip, a glass of white wine, and the whole run to tell again. We sled at Mürren or at Isenfluh, both above the Lauterbrunnen valley, a short drive from Interlaken. Your guide chooses the run with the best snow that day, so the route can change with the conditions.

March is our favourite month: fewer people, more sun, still snow - Have your camera out before the cable car leaves: the view opens up fast - Wear ski pants, even over jeans: you sit on the sled and brake in the snow - Renting clothes from us? Come 15 minutes early to try them on - In the van your guide gives you an expected return time. If you have a train to catch after the fondue, say so then - Allergies or dietary needs: tell us when you book. Not every request can be met, and we would rather tell you before the evening than at the table
Long before anyone rode a sled for fun, it was a farm tool. In the Swiss Alps, hay cut on the high slopes in summer often waited up there for winter. Then the farmers climbed back up, tied it into bundles of about 60 kilos and rode the load home on a wooden sled. In Gimmelwald, next door to Mürren, the hay came down the same way. Then the winter guests arrived. In 1883 the first official international sled race ran from Davos to Klosters, and work turned into play. Above Mürren a run was built for bobsleighs, and the bobsleigh scenes of a James Bond film were later shot on it. Today it is one of our two runs. What once brought the hay down now brings you down, for the pure joy of it.
*Do I need any experience? No. Never skied, never sledded: you are welcome. Your guide shows you how to steer, slow down and stop, the first stretch is flat for practice, and the faster sections are taken one sled at a time. *Is it dangerous? Both our runs are officially rated easy, and your guide briefs you at the top and stays with the group. Sledding is still a mountain sport: you can fall, and the snow is cold. So far, the worst that has happened to one of our guests is a tumble into the snow. *Will I see the sunset? That depends on the weather and the season. On a clear evening the light turns gold and the summits go pink while you are on the mountain. Late in the season the days are long: in April we cannot promise the sunset. *Mürren or Isenfluh: where do we sled? Both runs are above the Lauterbrunnen valley, and both end the same way, around a fondue in Interlaken. Your guide chooses the one with the best snow that day. The price is the same. *What if there is not enough snow? If neither run is safe, we cancel and you choose between another date and a full refund. *What if it rains in Interlaken? Rain in town often falls as snow higher up. We go where the snow is. *What time are we back? The evening lasts about 4 hours from the 3:30 pm departure, and the fondue is the last part. The evening ends at the restaurant in Interlaken, and you make your own way back from there. Your guide gives you an expected finish time in the van. *Where do we eat the fondue, and what comes with it? In Interlaken, indoors, after the sledding. The fondue comes with bread and sides, and a glass of white wine or another drink is included. *I have no winter clothes. What do I do? We rent ski pants and jackets for CHF 5 per item and lend gloves free of charge. Email contact@swisslocaladventures.ch before the day with your sizes. Bring waterproof boots with a good grip. *How big is the group? Eight guests at most. *Can children come? From age 10. Under 15s come with an adult. The rule is the same on private tours. *What language is the tour in? English and French. *Where do we meet? In Interlaken, at Adventure Hostel, Interlaken Ost station or Balmers. We confirm your pick-up point by message before the tour. *Can I book for tonight? Online booking stays open until 2 hours before departure. *Can we book a private evening? Yes: CHF 894 for your own group, up to 8 guests. Message us on WhatsApp at +41 76 721 14 43 with your date and group size, or write to contact@swisslocaladventures.ch. For a private evening, free cancellation up to 5 days before.
We go where the snow is. Before each tour we check both runs, Mürren and Isenfluh, and choose the one in the best condition. Rain in Interlaken often falls as snow higher up, so a grey day in town does not mean the evening is off. If conditions are unsafe on both runs, we cancel. You then choose between another date and a full refund. We reach you through the contact details you gave when booking, so check that your phone number and email are right.
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure, with a full refund. Inside 48 hours there is no refund. If we cancel for weather or safety, you choose between a full refund and another date. For more details, please see our Terms and Conditions.
