Skydiving in Interlaken

Red light, get ready. Yellow, the door slides open. Green, you slide forward and there is only air beneath you. For 45 seconds you fall at up to 180 km/h, the wind roaring, the lakes and peaks wheeling below. Then the canopy opens and the noise drops away. You float over the valley, steer a few turns with your tandem master, lift your legs and touch down on the meadow in front of the hangar. It starts calmly. A shuttle drives you from Interlaken along Lake Thun to the Reichenbach dropzone while you sign the paperwork. You pull on a jumpsuit, your tandem master walks you through the exit, the freefall position and the landing, and the plane climbs for about 15 minutes over the peaks and the two lakes. First jump? You are exactly who this is for. Your tandem master stays in control from the door to the ground.

- Closed shoes that lace up well - Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and an extra layer: it is much colder at 4,000 m than in Interlaken - Your ticket or booking confirmation - Cash or card if you want photos or video - Glasses and contact lenses are fine: you get goggles for the jump - Leave your phone and camera on the ground: they are not allowed on the plane, and the dropzone has lockers

- Never jumped before? You are welcome: no experience and no physical effort needed, your tandem master flies the jump - Minimum age 12. Under 18, a parent or legal guardian signs the waiver, no exceptions. Ages 12 to 16 come with a parent - Weight 40 to 105 kg, with clothes and shoes on. The limit is strict, with no exceptions - Minimum height 140 cm, no maximum - Not possible with heart or circulatory problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy, pregnancy, recent injuries, recent eye surgery, chronic ear disease with balance problems, neurological conditions or whiplash. Any other health concern: ask before you book - At retirement age, a doctor's medical certificate is required - Tandem masters speak German and English

April to October, weather permitting. Departures at 08:30 and 12:00 from Monday to Saturday, and at 12:00 only on Sundays. A few days have only the 12:00 departure. The slots for your date appear when you book. Allow 3 to 3.5 hours from Interlaken, or about 2 hours if you meet the team at the Reichenbach dropzone.

- Bringing friends to watch? Send them straight to the Reichenbach airfield: parking is free, there are lockers, and the whole experience takes about 2 hours instead of 3.5. - Book the earliest slot on offer. Outdoor says mornings often have the most stable weather, and a morning jump that cannot go ahead has a better chance of moving to the same day. - Want the 4,600 m jump? Tell us when you book and we pass the request to Outdoor, which notes it but cannot promise it. It costs CHF 30 at the dropzone, and the pilot approves it by radio on the day, depending on air traffic and weather. - Want every angle? Combine the handcam and the extra cameraman. The handcam catches your face and part of the canopy ride, the cameraman films your freefall from outside. Tell us when you book, and Outdoor confirms the cameraman on the day.

OUTDOOR grew out of the Grindelwald mountain guides of 1898 and has run adventures from Interlaken since 2001. In 2024 it brought in Skydive Switzerland and its dropzone at Reichenbach in the Kandertal. Each tandem master there has several thousand jumps, and the dropzone shows 4.9 out of 5 from more than 800 Google reviews. We like it for the plane: up to 8 tandems fly in one load, so a group of friends jumps together. Swiss Local Adventures acts as an intermediary in the name and on behalf of Outdoor Switzerland AG.

*Do I need experience or fitness? No. Your tandem master flies the jump and lands the parachute. The briefing at the dropzone shows you the exit, the freefall position and how to lift your legs for landing. *What if I get scared at the door? Nerves are normal, and nobody forces you to jump. If you decide not to, the price and any photo or video package are not refunded, because the team is planned in advance. *Can I jump from higher than 4,000 metres? Sometimes. Depending on air traffic and weather, the pilot can approve a jump from 4,600 m on the day, for CHF 30 extra paid on site. You cannot book it in advance. *Handcam or extra cameraman? The handcam on your tandem master's wrist films you up close, including part of the canopy ride. The extra cameraman films your freefall from outside, not the canopy, and is not available on every jump. You can combine both. *Can my friends watch? Yes. They drive straight to the Reichenbach airfield, where parking is free, and the landings happen in front of the hangar. You can meet the team there too: about 2 hours instead of 3.5. *What if the weather turns? Rain, fog, strong wind or foehn can stop the jump, and the call often comes on the day. If Outdoor cancels for weather, you can reschedule for free or choose another activity. *Can I jump in winter too? Yes. Rain, fog, wind or foehn can stop a jump. Mountain weather changes fast, so Outdoor often decides on the day, sometimes about 30 minutes before pick-up in Interlaken. Give us a mobile number Outdoor can reach on the day: if Outdoor does not call, your jump is still on or the decision is not made yet. If Outdoor cancels for weather, you can reschedule for free or choose another activity.

Free cancellation or rebooking up to 48 hours before the start. After that, no refund, unless you show a medical certificate from a doctor authorised to practise in Switzerland, which Outdoor assesses case by case. If you decide not to jump on the day, the price and any photo or video package are not refunded. Groups of more than 10: free cancellation up to 14 days before.
