Timoté Baily

Timoté didn't come to the mountains to guide. He came to photograph them. The guiding came later, naturally, the way most things do when you spend enough time at altitude.

"The best moments in the mountains are the ones you almost miss; the light that lasts thirty seconds, the chamois that disappears before you reach for your camera. I've learned to slow down enough to catch them."

He is training to become a certified high mountain guide, one of the most demanding paths in alpinism. In the meantime, he leads groups through the Bernese Oberland and handles most of SLA's photography; landscapes, wildlife, the kind of images that make people book trips.

Off the clock, he climbs, rock, ice, whatever the season offers. He skis, jumps from planes, and swims open water. The camera is always somewhere close.
